Chapter 1. Safety Precautions

CAUTION

Do not locate the document recorder at an unstable location, such as a rocky workbench, other inclined surface, or at a location subject to vibration. Otherwise, the document recorder might fall down and cause unexpected injury.

Do not block the air vents. Doing so might cause heat build-up inside the document recorder or a fire.

Do not place cups, vases and other containers filled with water, clips, staples, necklaces, or other metal objects on the document recorder. If these items spill or enter inside the document recorder, they may cause a fire or electrical shock. If you accidentally spill something into the document recorder, turn the power OFF, disconnect the power cord from the power outlet, and call for service immediately.

Do not install the document recorder in locations subject to dust or humidity. This can cause a fire or electrical shock.

Never place heavy objects on top of the document recorder. Otherwise, they might fall down and cause unexpected injury.

Use only a power supply having the rated voltage. Do not use a power supply having a different voltage. Otherwise, it may cause a fire or electrical shock.

When you remove the power cord, grip it by the plug head. Never attempt to disconnect the power cord from the power outlet by pulling on the power cord. Otherwise, the power cord may become damaged by exposure of the core leads or broken leads, and may cause a fire or electrical shock.

Keep the area around the power outlet clear of all obstacles so you can disconnect the power cord easily at all times.

Do not spill water or flammable substances (alcohol, paint thinner, benzene, etc.) inside the document recorder. Otherwise, they might cause a fire or electrical shock.

If you are not using the document recorder for an extended period of time, always disconnect the power cord from the power outlet beforehand for safety.

Avoid wearing loose, baggy clothing when you operate the document recorder, and accessories that may become caught on the document recorder during operation. Clothing or accessories may become entangled in the document recorder, and lead to injury. Pay particular attention to neckties and long hair. If clothing or accessories should become caught inside the document recorder, immediately disconnect the power cord to stop the document recorder.

Handle paper carefully when you place documents or remove jammed paper. Otherwise, you may suffer an unexpected injury, such as cutting your hand on the edge of the paper.
