Chapter 2. Overview of the CD-4070NW

Features of the CD-4070NW

The CD-4070NW is a high-speed document recorder that integrates a scanner unit, control unit, and recording unit. Microsoft Windows XP is used as its operating system. Scanning has been made easy by combining preinstalled document management software with a touch panel for its control unit. CD-R discs that comply with the Recordable Compact Disc Security System Part II Standard (Orange Book) are used as the document recorder’s recording medium. This allows you to search and display data that has been recorded on the CD- 4070NW on ISO9660 Level 3-compliant CD-ROM drives on personal computers.

Here is a summary of the outstanding features of CD-4070NW:

High-Speed Paper Feed

In spite of the document recorder’s small size, it can scan documents from business card size up to B4 size at high speed (up to 40 A4 size documents ppm in the simplex mode).

High Durability

A highly durable design provides scanning for up to three million scans.

Automatic Document Size Detection

The size of the scanned document is automatically detected, and areas around the document are cropped. This reduces the size of the document and saves storage space.

Color/Grayscale Support*

Documents can be scanned at 24-bit color and 256-level grayscale.

(*)When scanning at 24-bit color,

24-bit color scanning is supported only for the front side of the document. If 24-bit color is selected and then both sides of a document are scanned, the back side is scanned at 256-level grayscale.

Dropout Color (Front Side Only)

This function lets you skip (“drop out”) a specific color when scanning.

Skew Correction

If the document is fed at a slant, the scanned image is straightened to correct this before saving.

Text Mode

Text mode enables documents marked in light pencil or with strong background tones to be scanned clearly.

Skip Blank Page

The Skip Blank Page function detects any blank pages that have been scanned, and automatically discards the data.

52x Writable High-Speed CD-R Drive

Supports high-speed writing onto CD-R discs at speeds of up to 52x. If the CD-R disc does not support high speed writing, the write speed can be configured to a speed that is supported.

Patch Code Recognition

Enables documents to be split into separate files whenever pages that contain patch codes are detected.

Barcode (Optional) , MICR, and OCR Input Functions

Barcodes (optional), MICR fonts (E13B only), and characters on specific areas of the scanned image can be read in and saved into fields. (See “Barcodes,” on p.13.)
