MÉTHODE CORRECTE D’ABATTAGE

nPrévoir un chemin de repli (ou plusieurs, en cas où le chemin prévu serait bloqué). Déblayer les alentours immédiats de l’arbre et s’assurer qu’aucun obstacle n’encombre le chemin de repli prévu. Déblayer le chemin de repli sans danger sur environ 135º par rapport à la ligne de chute prévue.

nTenir compte de la force et de la direction du vent, de l’inclinaison et de l’équilibre de l’arbre et de la position des grosses branches. Tous ces facteurs influencent la direction dans laquelle l’arbre tombera. Ne pas faire levier pour abattre un arbre dans une direction autre que la ligne de chute naturelle.

nPratiquer un sifflet d’environ 1/3 du diamètre du tronc, dans le côté de l’arbre. Veiller à ce que les entailles du sifflet se coupent à angle droit par rapport à la ligne de chute. Le sifflet d’abattage doit être taillé de façon à présenter une ligne droite. Pour empêcher le pincement de la scie sous le poids du bois, toujours effectuer l’entaille inférieure du sifflet en premier.

nL’entaille arrière doit toujours être de niveau et horizontale, et effectuée à au moins 51 mm (2 po) au-dessus de l’entaille horizontale du sifflet.

NOTE : Ne jamais couper jusqu’au sifflet.

Toujours laisser une épaisseur de bois [environ 51 mm (2 po), soit 1/10ème du diamètre du tronc] entre l’entaille d’abattage et le sifflet.

Ceci s’appelle une « charnière ». Cette charnière contrôle la chute de l’arbre et empêche le tronc de glisser, de pivoter ou de basculer sur la souche.

nSur les arbres de grand diamètre, arrêter l’entaille d’abattage avant qu’elle soit assez profonde pour causer la chute de l’arbre ou son affaissement sur la souche. Ensuite, insérer des coins en bois ou en plastique dans le trait, de façon à ce qu’ils ne touchent pas la chaîne. Enfoncer les coins petit à petit pour faire levier sur l’arbre.

NOTE : Lorsque des coins sont utilisés pour tronçonner ou abattre un arbre, il peut être nécessaire de retirer la garde antirebond SAFE- T-TIP®afin de pouvoir tirer la lame au travers de l’entaille. Une fois la coupe effectuée, remettre immédiatement la garde en place.

nDès que l’arbre commence à tomber, arrêter la scie et la poser immédiatement à terre.

S’échapper par le chemin dégagé tout en prenant garde que rien ne tombe vers soi.

AVERTISSEMENT :

Ne jamais couper l’entaille d’abattage jusqu’au sifflet. La charnière, qui est la section de bois laissée intacte entre le trait d’abattage et le sifflet contrôle la chute de l’arbre.
