Default VMPS Configuration
Table 9 -9 shows the default VMPS and dynamic port configuration on client switches .
Configuring an Interface as a Layer 2 Dynamic Access Port
You configure dynamic VLANs by using the VMPS (server). The switch cannot be a VMPS server; the
server can be a Catalyst 6000 switch or other similar device.

Entering the IP Address of the VMPS

You must first enter the IP address of the server to configure the switch as a client.
Note If the VMPS is being defined for a cluster of switches, ent er t he a dd ress o n th e co mm and sw it ch.
Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to enter the IP address of the VMPS:

Command Purpose
Step1 configure terminal Enter global configuration mode.
Step2 vmps server ipaddress primary Enter the IP address of the switch acting as the primary VMPS server.
Step3 vmps server ipaddress Enter the IP address of the switch acting as a s eco nda ry V MP S se rve r.
You can enter up to three secondary server addresses.
Step4 end Return to privileged EXEC mode.
Step5 show vmps Verify your entries in the VMPS Domain Server field of the display.
Step6 copy running-config startup-config (Optional) Save your entries in the configuration file.
