7.7Hard Partitioning

Hard partitioning allows you to run multiple operating systems on one hardware system. Table 7–6 lists the SCM environment variables used to create hard partitions. After entering the SCM commands, set the control panel switch to Off and then to On to create the hard partitions.

Table 7–6 SCM Environment Variables for Hard Partitions

Environment Variable

hp_count

hp_qbb_maskx

Definition

A value from 0 to n indicating the number of hard partitions to be configured. Partitions are numbered from 0 to n–1. If this value equals 0 or 1, partitioning is disabled and the system remains in standard SMP mode.

A bitmask of QBBs to be included in hard partition x.

In Example 7–7, a GS160 system is hard partitioned into 2 partitions with:

QBB 0 and QBB 1 in partition 0, and,

QBB 2 and QBB 3 in partition 1

Example 7–7 Defining Hard Partitions

SCM_E0> set hp_count 2

SCM_E0> set hp_qbb_mask0 3

SCM_E0> set hp_qbb_mask1 c
