System Board

WARNING: Do not operate your computer with any cover(s) (including computer covers, bezels, filler brackets, front-panel inserts, etc.) removed.

CAUTION: Only a certified service technician should perform repairs on your computer. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty.

Removing the System Board

1Follow the instructions in "Before You Begin" on page 13.

2Remove the computer cover (see "Removing the Computer Cover" on page 17).

3Remove the Mini-Card, if applicable (see "Removing the Mini-Card" on page 33).

4Remove any PCI Express cards, if applicable (see "Removing PCI Express Cards" on page 39).

5Remove the processor fan and heat-sink assembly (see "Removing the Processor Fan and Heat-Sink Assembly" on page 79).

6Remove the processor (see "Removing the Processor" on page 83).

7Remove the memory modules (see "Removing the Memory Module(s)" on page 21) and record which memory module is removed from each DIMM slot so that the memory modules can be installed in the same slot after the system board is replaced.
