El audio PCM lineal es el formato de grabación de señal utilizado para los CDs de música.

Mientras que para los CDs de música, las señales son grabadas a 44,1 kHz/16 bits, para los DVDs son grabadas desde 48 kHz/16 bits a 96 kHz/24 bits, lo que proporciona una calidad de sonido superior a los CDs de música.
