HDCD® (High Definition Compatible Digital®) decoder

HDCD is an encoding/decoding technology that greatly reduces the distortion occurring at the time of digital recording while maintaining compatibility with the conventional CD format. HDCD allows 20-bit data to be converted into the 16-bit data of current CDs with no loss in sound quality.

The use of this HDCD decoder makes it possible to achieve the high resolution and low distortion characteristic of HDCD when playing HDCD-compatible discs, and DENON’s digital technology optimizes the high sound quality possibilities of HDCD technology. Furthermore, normal CDs and HDCD-compatible CDs are automatically identified, and the optimum digital signal processing for that type of disc is used.

®, HDCD®, High Definition Compatible Digital® and Microsoft® are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Microsoft Corporation, Inc. in the United States and/or other countries. HDCD system manufactured under license from Microsoft Corporation, Inc. This product is covered by one or more of the following: In the USA: 5,479,168, 5,638,074, 5,640,161, 5,808,574, 5,838,274, 5,854,600, 5,864,311, 5,872,531, and in Australia: 669114. Other patents pending.

AL24 Processing (Stereo mode only)

AL24 Processing has inherited the technology of the original ALPHA Processing that was used in DENON’s highly-successful reference-class audio components. AL24 Processing further reduces quantization distortion and represents the ultimate analog waveform reproduction technology designed to support the higher numbers of bits and higher sampling. AL24 Processing senses the nature of the digital data being input and interpolates the data so that it faithfully replicates the original analog waveform. AL24 processing operates when PCM, MP3 or WMA data is inputted.

Progressive Scan circuit “DCDi™”

The ADV-S301 is equipped with a high precision Progressive Scan circuit “DCDi™” allowing it to reproduce movies and other images on DVDs with a quality near that of the original.

“DCDi™” is trademark of Faroodja, a division of Genesis Microchip Inc.

Super Audio CD multi-channel playback compatibility

In addition to playing DVD audio and video discs, the ADV-S301 can play multi-channel Super Audio CDs with a playback frequency range covering 100 kHz and a dynamic range of 120 dB or greater within the audible frequency range can be output.
