Using the DP570 Features Measuring and Setting the Dialogue Level
Thisprocessallowsyoutoaccuratelyestimatetheaveragelevelofalloftheindividual
dialoguesections.1
Thetermrepresentativesectionindicatesashortersectionoftheprogrambeingmeasured
thatcontainsspokendialoguelevelsthatarerepresentativeofthespeechlevelsfound
throughouttheentireprogram.
Infinitemodeismostoftenusediningest,QC,andpostproductionapplicationswhere
audiometadataisbeingauthored,thewholepieceofcontentisavailable,andlevelscan
usuallybecontrolledand/oradjusted.Infinitemodeshouldbeusedinautomatedand
semiautomatedapplications.
Using Short-term Measurements
ShorttermmeasurementmodedisplaystheLeq(A)measurementvalueforonlythe
previoustensecondperiod.Forexample,thefirstmeasurementvalueisforthetime
intervalbetween0and10seconds,thenextbetween1and11seconds,nextbetween2and
12seconds,andsoforth.Figure 45illustratesthesemeasurements.

Sincetheshorttermmeasurementconsidersonlytheprevioustensecondsofprogram
material,themeasuredvaluecanbemuchmoredynamicthanthemeasuredvaluein
Infinitemode.
Thebenefitofshorttermmeasurementisthatitallowstheoperatortoseeshortterm
variationsinloudnesslevelwithinaprogram.Manyskilledaudiooperatorsprefertouse
