4.6 Monitoring DownmixesTheDP570allowsyoutoauditionvariousdownmixesbeforefinalizingthecontent.
Previewingdownmixconditionsisessentialinprovidingthebestpossibleaudioqualityin
listeningenvironmentswithfewerspeakers.SelectaDownmixmodeandmakenecessary
adjustmentstothemetadataorthesourcemixaccordingly.
Youcansetupseparatesetsofspeakersfordifferentdownmixconditions,sendingastereo
downmixtotheleftandrightspeakersinyour5.1listeningenvironment,thentoa
differentsetofstereospeakersjustbychangingyourspeakerselectionsetting.Itisagood
ideatohavealow‐gradealternatespeakerconfigurationsetuptomonitorthestereoand
monodownmixestomakesureprogramcontentplaysappropriatelyin
“fidelity‐challenged”environments.
Tomonitorthevarious downmixesintheDolbyRemote570application,clickanyofthe
buttonsshowninFigure4‐3,thenadjustsettingsonthemetadatatabsasnecessary.

4.7 Measuring and Setting the Dialogue LevelThedialoguelevelparameter,alsoknownasdialoguenormalizationordialnorm,isavital
elementinaudiocontentcreation.Theproperdialoguelevelvalueensuresthatthe
consumerhearsdifferentprogramsatthesamelevel.SeeDialogueLevelonpage86fora
detailedexplanationofthedialoguelevelparameter.Thedialoguelevelforeachprogram
mustbecarefullymeasuredandthenappropriatelyset.Thisiseasyusingthecontrolinthe

4.7.1 Identifying Normal or Average Level Program Segments
Tosetthedialoguelevelparameter,thefirstandmostimportantstepisselectingaudioclip
samplesthatrepresenttheaverageloudnessleveloftheprogramcontent.Rememberthat
thedialoguelevelparameterestablishesthelevelfornormaldialogueintheprogram;
quieterandlouderscenestendtoshowhigherorlowermeasurementsthanthecorrect
