A‐weightedaveragelevelofdialoguewithinapresentation,Leq(A).Thislevelcanbe
quantifiedwiththeDolbyModelLM100BroadcastLoudnessMeter.
Whenreceivedattheconsumer’sDolbyDigitaldecoder,thisparametersettingdetermines
alevelshiftinthedecoderthatsets,ornormalizes,theaverageaudiooutputofthedecoder
toapresetlevel.Thisaidsinmatchingaudiovolumebetweenprogramsources.
Inbroadcasttransmission,thepropersettingofDialogueLevelensuresthattheconsumer
receivesastandardlisteninglevel,soswitchingchannelsorwatchingatelevisionprogram
throughthecommercialbreaksdoesn’trequireadjustingthevolume.Usingthesame
standardforallcontent,whetherconveyedbybroadcasttelevision,DVD,orothermedia,
enablestheconsumertoswitchbetweensourcesandprogramswhilemaintaininga
comfortableandconsistentlisteninglevel.
ThepropersettingoftheDialogueLevelparameteralsoenablestheDynamicRange
