Connecting a Cassette Tape or DAT Deck

This configuration shows a Cassette Tape Deck connection where the audio output is taken from the left and right audio outputs (may also be labeled PLAY). If you plan to use the Cassette Tape Deck for recording, you also must connect the DMC-1’s TAPE audio outputs into the Cassette Tape Deck inputs (may also be labeled RECORD).

Depending on the type of tape deck you connect, the inputs and outputs on the DMC-1 can be connected to TAPE or DAT. If you have both types connected, the DMC-1 will switch automatically on to whichever source is playing. You can’t have both playing at the same time. In the diagram shown, recording from any selected source is possible except recording between Cassette Tape and DAT. This is called “dubbing” and is beyond the design intent of the Emotiva DMC-1 preamplifier/processor.
