adapter, adapter card

An add-on computer interface card andcircuitry that provides the physical connection and data translation betweenthe host computer’s I/O bus and external devices or networks.

backplane

For an I/O bus, the computer’s circuitry and connectors to which adapter cards connect. The SCSI/parallel adapter card is supported on HP Precision Architecture RISC computers that usethe HP-PB backplane. Seealso, HP-PB.

balanced signal

Seedifferential signal.

bus

The electrical hardware and circuitry for transferring data, addressand control signals between hardware modules or devices.

configuration

The arrangement of a computer systemor subsystemand its elementsto allow proper operation or to implement specific functionality. The term configuration mayrefer to both hardware and software.

console

The ASCII terminal, or personalcomputer emulating an ASCII terminal, that is connected to the host computer for systemadministration (such asfor configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting).
