configuring a GSM data connection (circuit-switched data)

Before you can configure your hp Jornada to connect to a remote computer using the GSM modem, you must configure a connection. Ensure that you have a subscription to the circuit-switched data (CSD) network. Check with your service provider for details. You will need the following information:

the phone number or dial string of the ISP or remote computer

any port settings, TCP/IP settings, or the name of the Domain Name Server(s) (DNS), if required by the network you are connecting to

a user name and password provided by the ISP or account administrator

In addition, you need an account with the ISP or corporate network you are connecting to, or access permission to dial in to a specific computer.

If you plan to use the account to send or receive e-mail messages directly from your hp Jornada, you must also obtain the following information from your ISP or account administrator:

a user name and password for your e-mail account. (These may be different from the user name and password you use to connect.)

the name of the POP3 or IMAP4 server (for incoming messages).

the name of the SMTP server (for outgoing messages).

Before you can connect to an ISP or dial in to a specific desktop PC, you must create a connection for that service on your hp Jornada.

To configure your GSM connection (CSD)

1.On the Start menu, tap Settings.

2.On the Connections tab, tap the Connections icon.

3.In the drop-down list, select New.

4.Tap the Modem tab, and then tap New.
