4When your MediaSmart HDTV is connected to your home network, it appears in the Media Sharing window. Click the TV icon, and then click Allow. This enables the program to stream media to the TV.

n

The first time you attempt this step, the TV may appear as an unidentified device. This is normal. Click the device icon, and then click Allow.

5To change the default sharing options, click the Settings button in the window. In the Media Sharing-Default Settings window, you can specify how your computer is listed among the media servers, and you can also select the media types you want to share and optional parental controls. Click OK.

6Click OK to close the Media Sharing window.

7At the top of the Windows Media Player window, click Library, and then click Add to Library. The Add To Library window opens.

8Select an option under Select the folders to monitor, or click the Advanced Options button and select specific folders.

9Click OK.

Wait while Windows Media Player automatically adds the media files from the selected folders to your Library.

This completes the steps to authorize and add media for Windows Media Player.

Sharing with a network drive

A computer with Windows Media Player 11 may share digital media with a network drive or remote share (for example, a computer with Windows Media Player 11 that is attached to a network configured with an HP Media Vault or other network attached storage). When your MediaSmart HDTV is connected to the same network, it aggregates this content for you to browse from a single interface on your MediaSmart TV.

To authorize your MediaSmart HDTV in Windows Media Player, and to select or add media to the shared folders, see “Adding media to share on the computer” on page 96.

Using MediaSmartServices GatewaySoftware

The MediaSmart Services Gateway software (also called the HP Server), manages the downloading and storing of movies onto a PC from the Internet, for viewing on a MediaSmart HDTV. The HP Server must be running on your PC to purchase and download movies from your TV, as well as view certain image and video file types not supported by Windows Media Player 11 such as .png, .ma4, and .mp4 files.

The software is loaded onto your PC by the MediaSmart HDTV Installation CD. Look for the icon on the desktop.

Be sure to accept any updates to the software MediaSmart loads onto your computer.
