Troubleshooting HP-UX IPQoS

Troubleshooting Tools

To receive information messages sent when verifying or loading a configuration file, use the -verboseoption. Run the following command:

#ipqosadmin -verify-load -f filename -verbose

Examine error, warning and informative messages for any unexpected information.

Examine the active configuration and determine if it meets your expectations. Run the following command:

#ipqosadmin -showconfig

Examine the statistics collected on the active configuration and determine if the policies are behaving as you expected. Run the following command:

#ipqosadmin -showstats

If statistics do not match your expectations, and you’ve ensured your configuration matches your expectations, monitor network traffic to see if conditions have changed such that changes to the active configuration are warranted.

HP-UX System and Networking Utilities

You can use the same HP-UX system and networking utilities you typically use to get information about the network.

Some of the general networking utilities available include the following:

netstat

ifconfig

syslog

nettl

traceroute

route

ping

lanadmin

Refer to the manpages for these utilities to get more information on how to use these utilities and how to interpret their output.

Public domain utilities such as tcpdump and MRTP (multi-router traffic grapher) can also provide helpful information about the network. HP includes the tcpdump utility as part of the HP-UX Internet Express bundle, available on HP Software Depot, at http://www.hp.com/go/softwaredepot.
