The guide consists of a series of steps pr esented in a
checklist. Begin the checks with the power off, and the
power cord disconnected.
Checklist:
1. Check exterior covers for damage (loose, brok en, or
sharp edg es ).
2. Power-of f the com puter. Disconnect the power
cord.
3. Check the power cord for:
a. A third-wire ground c onnector in good
condition. Use a meter to measure thir d- wire
ground continuity for 0.1 ohm or less b etween
the external ground pin and fram e grou nd.
b. The power cord should b e the appropriate type
as specified in the parts listings.
c. Insulation must not be frayed or w or n .
4. Remove the cover.
5. Check for any obvious non-IB M alt er ations. Use
good judgment as to the safety of any n on-I B M
alterations.
6. Check inside the unit for any obvious unsaf e
conditions, such as metal filings , c ont amination, water
or other liquids, or signs of fire or smok e d am age.
7. Check for worn, frayed, o r pinched cables.
8. Check that the power-supply cover fasteners (screws
or rivets) have not been r emoved or tampered w ith.
