SECTION 4—SAFETY INSPECTION/TROUBLESHOOTINGNOTE:Everysixmonthsorasnecessarytakeyourwheelchairtoaqualifieddealerforathorough
inspectionandservicing.Regularcleaningwillreveallooseorwornpartsandenhancethesmooth
operationofyourwheelchair.Tooperateproperlyandsafely,yourwheelchairmustbecaredforjust
likeanyothervehicle.Routinemaintenancewillextendthelifeandefficiencyofyourwheelchair.
Safety Inspection Checklists
CAUTION
As with any vehicle, wheels and tires should be checked periodically for cracks and
wear and should be replaced as necessary.
Initialadjustmentsshouldbemadetosuityourpersonalbodystructureneedsand
preference.Thereafterfollowthesemaintenanceprocedures:
All Wheelchairs
Inspect/Adjust Initially
❑Ensurethatthewheelchairrollsstraight(noexcessivedragorpulltooneside).
❑Ensurethatthearmsaresecurebuteasytoreleaseandadjustmentleversengage
properly.
❑Ensurethatadjustableheightarmsoperateandlocksecurely.
❑Ensurearmrestpadssitflushagainstarm.
❑Ensureseatissecuredtowheelchairframe.
❑Ensureseatreleaselatchisfunctional.Replaceifnecessary.
❑Cleanseatupholsteryandarmrests.
❑Ensurewheelmountingnutsaresecureondrivewheels.
❑Ensurenoexcessivesidemovementorbindingoccurswhendrivewheelsarelifted
andspunwhendisengaged(freewheeling).
❑Inspectcasterassemblyhaspropertensionwhencasterisspun.Castershouldcome
toagradualstop.
❑Loosen/tightencasterlocknutifwheelwobblesnoticeablyorbindstoastop.
❑Ensureallcaster/wheel/fork/headtubefastenersaresecure.
❑Inspecttiresforflatspotsandwear.
❑Ensurecastersarefreeofdebris.
