PICTURE
Symptom Possible cause Remedy
No picture is displayed on the monitor. Connection of video cable is incorrect. Connect the cable correctly.
Input selection of TV is incorrect. Select correctly.
Disc is not playable. Use a playable disc (see page 4).
No picture is displayed on the monitor or
the screen is blurred or divided into two
parts.
The unit is in the progressive scanning
mode (i.e. the PROGRESSIVE indicator is
lit) through it is connected to a TV via the
VIDEO or S-VIDEO jack.
Make the Progressive scanning mode
inactive by using the VFP - PROGRESSIVE
SCAN button (see page 10).
The picture is noisy or blurred. The unit is connected to a VCR directly
and the copyguard function is activated. Connect the unit so that the picture signal
flows directly to the TV.
With some discs, the picture may be
blurred when [STILL MODE] is set to
[FRAME] or [AUTO].
Set [STILL MODE] to [FIELD] (see page
59).
No picture is displayed when connected
to a TV with the VIDEO OUT jack, S-VIDEO
jack or SCART connector.
The VIDEO SIGNAL SELECTOR on the
rear panel is not set correctly. Set the VIDEO SIGNAL SELECTOR on the
rear panel to "PAL" while the unit is
turned off (see page 7).
No picture is displayed when connected
to a TV with the COMPONENT VIDEO
OUT jacks.
Set the VIDEO SIGNAL SELECTOR on the
rear panel to "NTSC" while the unit is
turned off (see page 8).
The picture does not fit the television
screen. [MONITOR TYPE] is not set correctly. Select monitor type correctly (see page
59).
TV settings are incorrect. Set the television correctly.
The upper and lower parts of the
preference display are cut off when using
wide-aspect TV.
It depends on the setting on the TV. Adjust the TV screen using the controls
on the TV.
AUDIO

No audio is reproduced. Connection is incorrect. Check the connection.
Input selection of amplifier is incorrect. Select correctly.
No audio is reproduced when playing
back a DVD disc recorded with high
sampling frequency (88.2 kHz or more)
linear PCM audio using the DIGITAL OUT
jack.
Audio signal is not emitted from the unit’s
DIGITAL OUT (see page 60). Use AUDIO OUT when playing back such
discs.
Audio volume is low when playing back
with the unit, compared with the TV or
VCR.
The audio level recorded on a DVD VIDEO
is lower compared with a TV broadcast. Turn up the volume of the TV or amplifier/
receiver.
Remember to turn the volume back down
before switching back to a TV broadcast
to prevent a sudden burst of high-volume
sound.
Sound is distorted or noise is generated. Disc is dirty. Wipe the disc surface (see page 5).
[MULTI CH] is shown in the display
window when playing back DVD AUDIO
disc.
The track is prohibited from down-mixing
to 2-channel stereo audio. Listen in multichannel surround audio.
