computer.Youmustenterthecorrectpasswordtostartusingthecomputer.
Settingapower-onpassword
1.Printtheseinstructions.
2.Saveallopenles,andexitallapplications.
3.Turnyourcomputeroffandthenturnitonagain.
4.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1.theThinkPadSetupprogrammainmenuopens.
5.SelectSecurity,usingthecursordirectionalkeystomovedownthemenu.
6.SelectPassword.
7.SelectPower-onPassword.
8.Chooseyourpower-onpassword,andtypeitwithinthebracketsintheEnterNewPasswordeld.
9.PressEnteroncetomovetothenextline.Retypethepasswordyoujustentered,toverifyit.
10.Commityourpasswordtomemory.
Note:Youmightwanttonotedownyourpower-onpasswordinasafeplace.Otherwise,ifyou
forgetit,youhavetotakeyourcomputertoaLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentativetohave
thepasswordcanceled.
11.PressF10toexit.
12.SelectYesintheSetupNoticewindow.
Changingorremovingthepower-onpassword
Tochangethepower-onpassword,followsteps1through7.Enteryourcurrentpassword.WhentheEnter
NewPasswordeldisdisplayed,typeanewpasswordintheeldandthenretypeittoverify.Toremove
thepassword,followsteps1through7.Typeyourcurrentpassword.WhentheEnterNewPasswordeld
isdisplayed,leaveitblankandpressEntertwice.
Harddiskpasswords
Twotypesofharddiskpasswordshelpprotecttheinformationstoredontheharddiskdrive:
Userharddiskpassword
Masterharddiskpassword,whichrequiresauserharddiskpassword
Ifauserhar ddiskpasswordhasbeenset,butnomasterharddiskpasswordhasbeen,theusermustenter
theuserharddiskpasswordinordertogainaccesstolesandapplicationsontheharddiskdrive.
Themasterpasswordcanbesetandusedonlybyasystemadministrator.Likeamasterkey,itenablesthe
administratortogetaccesstoanyharddiskdriveinasystem.Theadministratorsetsthemast erpassword;
nooneelseknowsit.Thentheadministratorsetsauserpasswordforeachcomputerinthenetwork,and
tellseachuserthepasswordforhisorhercomputer .Theusercanthenchangetheuserpasswordas
desired,buttheadministrat orstillcangetaccessbyusingthemasterpassword.
Note:Whenamasterharddiskpasswordisset,onlytheadministratorcanremovetheuserharddisk
password.
