The product code is represented by the last six digits (without the check digit) can be transmitted alone:

3.4.8.ISBN Conversion
This function converts UPC/EAN codes appearing on book into ISBN format.
The 3 leading digits and the check digit of UPC/EAN codes are suppressed and the remaining 9 digits are transmitted with the ISBN check digit calculated by the decoder.
