Connections and setup
This chapter explains how to connect SB168-ES units to the M7CL, make
audio input and output connections, and perform the setup operation
required when you start the M7CL for the first time.
This section describes how to connect the SB168-ES units to the M7CL-48ES and set up the sys-
tem using the STAGE BOX SETUP function. You can use either a daisy chain connection or ring
connection.
Daisy chain characteristics
Three daisy-chained SB168-ES units provide a total of
48 input channels and 24 output channels.
If a connection is broken in a daisy chain network, the
signal flow is interrupted at that point and no signal will
be transferred beyond that point.
Ring connection characteristics
The EtherSound specifications limit the total number of
input and output channels to 64 in this type of network.
Three daisy-chained SB168-ES units provide a total of
48 input channels and 16 output channels.
•A problem in the network, such as a disconnected cable,
will not affect operation of the entire network.
For detailed information on EtherSound, refer to the EtherSound website:

When the unit is shipped from the factory, the AUTO CONFIGURE button is set to ON, the connection setting is confi gured
for DAISY CHAIN, and the word clock master is set to INT 48kHz.
To configure the unit for a ring connection, use the Stage Box Setup function. p. 45
The explanation in this section assumes that the unit is set to factory default settings. If you are not sure whether the unit is
currently set to the factory defaults, we recommend that you initialize the internal memory of the M7CL-48ES. p. 238

Connecting SB168-ES units to the M7CL-48ES

using the STAGE BOX SETUP function

If you plan to connect SB168-ES units using the Stage Box Setup function, the firmware of the Ether-
Sound module must be updated to an appropriate version. (
