CHAPTER 6 TROUBLESHOOTING

This section contains questions and answers for using your printer. If you have encountered a problem, find the question relating to your problem and take the steps recommended to correct the problem.

Setting up the Printer Hardware and Software

Question

The printer does not work. All lamps are off.

The printer does not print.

I cannot print from my Windows application software.

The cursor does not move with mouse movement, or a keyboard error occurs.

The status monitor does not appear on the computer screen.

The printer is still in sleep mode when I send a print job from my software.

Recommendation

The printer may be in sleep mode. Press the READYSLEEP switch to wake up the printer. Check to see if the printer is plugged into a live power source.

Check the following:

All of the protective parts have been removed.

The toner cartridge and drum unit are installed properly.

The interface cable is securely connected between the printer and computer.

Check to see if the ALARM lamp is blinking. Refer to Operator Call section of this manual if it is.

Check your computer screen for any error message.

Make sure the supplied printer driver is installed and selected with your application software. Please refer to the Quick Setup Guide for instructions.

Turn off the PC, press the READYSLEEP switch to put the printer into sleep mode, and then turn on the PC power switch.

Make sure you are not using any printer buffer switches or switch boxes. Connect the printer directly to the PC.

The cable may be disconnected or defective. Replace it or try a different cable.
