CAUTION: Do not touch the black transfer roller inside the machine.

6Locate the long strip of glass (LSU) inside the top of the

cartridge compartment, and gently swab the glass to see if dirt turns the white cotton black.

7Reinsert the manual tray, toner cartridge and close the door.

8Plug in the power cord and turn the machine on.

Cleaning the Scan Unit

Keeping the scan unit clean helps ensure the best possible copies. We suggest that you clean the scan unit at the start of each day and during the day, as needed.

1Slightly dampen a soft lint-free cloth or paper towel with water.

2Open the document cover.

4Wipe the underside of the white document cover and white bar until it is clean and dry.

5Close the document cover.

Maintaining the Toner Cartridge

Toner cartridge storage

To get the most from the toner cartridge, keep the following guidelines in mind:

Do not remove the toner cartridge from its package until ready for use.

Do not refill the toner cartridge. The machine warranty does not cover damage caused by using a refilled cartridge.

Store toner cartridges in the same environment as your machine.

To prevent damage to the toner cartridge, do not expose it to light for more than a few minutes.

Saving toner

To save toner, press the Toner Save button on the control panel; see “Toner Save Mode” on page 2.12. The button backlight turns on. Using this feature extends the life of the toner cartridge and reduces your cost per page, but it also reduces print quality.

Expected Cartridge Life

The life of the toner cartridge depends on the amount of toner that print jobs require. When printing text at ISO 19752 5% coverage, a new toner cartridge lasts an average of 3,000 pages. (The original toner cartridge supplied with the machine lasts an average of 1,000 pages.) The actual number may be different depending on the print density of the page you print. If you print a lot of graphics, you may need to change the cartridge more often.
