Using the embedded Web server
When the printer is directly connected to a computer, the embedded Web server is supported for Windows 98 and later. When the printer is connected to the network, the embedded Web server is supported for Windows 95, Mac OS 8.6 and later, UNIX, Linux, and OS/2.
The embedded Web server allows you to view printer and network status and to manage printing functions from your computer instead of from the printer control panel. Below are examples of what you can do using the embedded Web server:
view printer status information
view and print internal pages
determine the remaining life on all supplies and order new ones
receive notification of printer and supplies events (network only)
set the type of paper loaded in each tray
view and change tray configurations
view and change the printer control panel menu configuration
view and change network configuration (network only)
To use the embedded Web server, you must have Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or later or Netscape Navigator 4 or later. The embedded Web server works when the printer is directly connected to a computer or connected to an
You do not have to have Internet access to open and use the embedded Web server. However, if you click a link in the Other Links area, you must have Internet access in order to go to the site associated with the link.
To open the embedded Web server
1Open the embedded Web server using one of these methods:
•From the HP Color LaserJet 2500 Toolbox, click the picture of the printer on the Device tab (Windows 98 and later only).
•In a supported Web browser, type the IP address for the printer (networked printer only).
To find the IP address, print a Configuration page at the printer by pressing (GO) and
(CANCEL JOB) simultaneously.

2The embedded Web server has three tabs that contain settings and information about the printer: the Information tab, the Settings tab, and the Networking tab. Click the tab that you want to view.
