If you did not receive your system with the operating system preinstalled, you must install Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition on the internal hard-disk drives of both nodes in the cluster. Refer to the Microsoft Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition Administrator’s Guide for instructions on installing the Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition operating system.

NOTE: Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition must be installed on and run from the internal hard-disk drives on the nodes. You cannot run the Windows NT operating sys- tem on the shared storage subsystem.

Refer to Chapter 3, “Configuring the Cluster Software,” in this guide for information specific to configuring Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition on your PowerEdge Cluster FE100.

After installing the Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition operating system, you must configure NICs in both nodes for the public LAN interconnect and the private node-to-node interconnect.

After you configure the NICs, install the Windows NT SCSI miniport driver for the QLogic host bus adapters on each node. See “SCSI Miniport Driver for the QLogic Host Bus Adapter” in Chapter 3 for the driver installation procedure.

For Dell OpenManage ATF and Microsoft Cluster Server to function properly in the PowerEdge Cluster FE100, you must install the latest Windows NT Service Pack.

If you are using Windows NT Service Pack 3, you must apply two hotfixes to both nodes. Apply the post-Service Pack 3 SCSI hotfix scsifixi.exe before you install Dell OpenManage ATF. Download the scsifixi.exe hotfix from the following FTP site:

NOTE: If you are installing Windows NT Service Pack 4, you do not need to install the hotfixes; the hotfixes are integrated into the service pack.
