A minimum of two QLogic QLA-2100 or QLA-2100F Fibre Channel host bus adapters in each PowerEdge system

Two 4-gigabyte (GB) internal hard-disk drives connected to a PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller or the integrated small computer system inter- face (SCSI) controller

Power cabling and distribution components needed to comply with your region’s requirements. Contact your Dell sales representative for specific power cabling and distribution requirements for your region.

NOTE: Dell strongly recommends the use of uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) to support your nodes and shared storage device.

A “crossover” Category 5 unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable to connect the NICs of cluster nodes that are used for node-to-node interconnect.

NOTE: An Ethernet switch can be used in place of the crossover cable.

Interface cabling from the QLogic host bus adapters to the PowerVault storage system, as follows:

For QLA-2100 host bus adapters, use copper cables with High-Speed Serial Data Connectors (HSSDCs) to DB-9 connectors for connecting to the Power- Vault 65xF storage system.

For QLA-2100F adapters, use optical fiber cables (multimode) with duplex SC connectors and media interface adapters (MIAs) for the DB-9 connectors on the PowerVault 65xF storage system.

One Dell PowerVault 65xF storage system for the shared disk resource with the following configuration:

Two storage processors (SPs), each with 64 MB of RAM

Two standby power supplies (one for each SP) to enable the write-cache feature

Ten hard-disk drives in the Disk-Array Processor Enclosure (DPE)

NOTE: Microsoft Cluster Server currently supports only the Microsoft Windows NT file system (NTFS) format for the shared storage subsystem.

In addition to the preceding hardware components, the following software compo- nents are also required:

Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition 4.0 operating system installed on the PowerEdge systems. Two Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition licenses are required, plus workstation licenses for all the client systems running on the network.
