Dell OpenManage Application-Transparent Failover (ATF) is a software product that works with the PowerVault 65xF storage system to enable application programs to continue running after the failure of an SP, host bus adapter, link control card (LCC), or cable. Without human intervention, ATF can route input/output (I/O) data through a secondary path to the disk units that the programs need.

After you install the Windows NT Service Pack and hotfixes, install the Dell OpenMan- age Data Agent on both nodes and install the Data Supervisor or, if available, Data Administrator on one of the nodes. These Dell OpenManage utilities are required to manage the PowerVault storage system.

Dell OpenManage Data Agent enables Dell OpenManage data management software to access the Dell PowerVault 65xF storage systems connected to a Windows NT host. In a cluster environment, you must dedicate a logical unit number (LUN) so that the Data Supervisor or Data Administrator can communicate with the Data Agent. Refer to “Configuring the Dell OpenManage Managed Node Agent in a Cluster” in Chapter 3 for information about setting up a dedicated LUN for the Data Agent. Dell OpenManage Data Supervisor and Data Administrator provide a graphical user inter- face that lets you configure and manage the physical components of the storage system. Using Data Supervisor or Data Administrator, you can group the PowerVault system’s physical disks into LUNs and monitor the status of the physical disks and other customer-replaceable units (CRUs) that make up the storage system.
