Before a phone model is available for sale to the public, compliance with the International guidelines (ICNIRP) or Eu- ropean Directive 1999/5/EC (R&TTE) must be shown. The protection of the health and the safety for the user and any other person constitute an essential element of these guidelines or this di- rective.

THIS MOBILE PHONE MEETS THE INTER- NATIONAL AND EU REQUIREMENTS FOR EXPOSURE TO RADIO WAVES.

Your mobile phone is a radio transmit- ter and receiver. It is designed and man- ufactured not to exceed the limits for exposure to radio-frequency (RF) energy recommended by International guide- lines (ICNIRP)1and by the Council of the European Union (Recommendation 1999/519/EC)2.

These limits are part of comprehensive guidelines and establish permitted lev- els of RF energy for the general popula- tion. The guidelines were developed by independent scientific organisations through periodic and thorough evalua- tion of scientific studies. The limits in- clude a substantial safety margin designed to assure the safety of all per- sons, regardless of age and health.

The exposure standard for mobile phones employs a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit stated in the Inter- national guidelines or recommended by the Council of the European Union is 2 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over ten grams of body tissue. Tests for SAR are conducted using standard operat- ing positions with the phone transmit- ting at its highest certified power level in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR is determined at the highest certified power level, the actual SAR lev- el of the phone while operating can be well below the maximum value. This is because the phone is designed to oper-
