Precautions for users of implanted cardiac pacemakers
Cardiac pacemakers (applies only to digital cordless telephones):
Wireless Technology Research, LLC (WTR), an independent research entity,
led a multidisciplinary evaluation of the interference between portable
wireless telephones and implanted cardiac pacemakers. Supported by
the U.S. Food an d Dr ug Adminis tration , W TR recommen ds to p hysi-
cians that:
PACEMAKER PATIENTS
• Sho uld ke ep wir eles s tele phon es at le ast si x inch es fro m the
pacemaker.
• Shoul d NOT pl ace wi reless teleph ones directl y over the pacemak er,
such as in a b reast pocket , when it is tu rned ON.
• Should use the wireless telephone at the ear opposite the
pacemaker.
WTR’s eval uation did not identify any risk to bystande rs with pacema kers
from other person s usi ng wi reless teleph ones.
Especially about telephones answering systems
Two-wa y record ing: This unit d oes not sound warning beeps to let the
other party know that the call is being recorded. To ensure that you are
in compliance with any federal or state regulations regarding recording
a telephone call, you should start the recording process and then
inform the other party that you are recording the conversation.
