Adjusting the Contrast Control

Use this procedure to adjust the contrast setting on any telephone with a display.

1.While the telephone is on-hook and idle, press the following sequence of keys on the telephone’s faceplate:

Mute 2 6 6 8 # (Mute C O N T #)

Note:

Press the Mute button momentarily. Do not press this button while pressing other keys/buttons. The 4630/4630SW IP Telephones and the 4690 IP Conference Telephone do not have a dedicated Hold button. For all other 4600 Series IP Telephones, pressing the Hold button instead of the Mute button also works.

All IP telephones except those without displays present the following text left-justified at the top of the display:

>>>>>>>>

*= - 0=+ #=OK

where the number of chevrons (“>” characters) corresponds to the value of the NVCONTRAST system variable.

2.To lower the contrast, press *. To increase the contrast, press 0.

If the contrast is already at the lowest or highest value when an asterisk or zero value is selected, an error tone sounds. If a value different from the current value of NVCONTRAST is entered, the display updates immediately and the number of chevrons change accordingly.

3.Repeat Step 2 as needed until the desired contrast is reached. When the contrast is at the desired level, press #.

If selected contrast is equal to the NVCONTRAST value, the procedure terminates. If a new value was selected the following left-justified text displays:

Save new value?

*=no #=yes

4.Press the * button to terminate the procedure, or the # button to save the new value. If you press the # button, all IP telephones except the 4601 display the following text:

New value being saved

All phones save the new value.
