dRaise the presser foot lever to check that the side cutter is securely attached.

ePass the upper thread under the side cutter, and then pull it out toward the rear of the sewing machine.

fSelect a stitch.

For details, refer to "Selecting stitching" (page 49).

gMake a cut of about 2 cm (3/4 inch) long in the fabric at the beginning of the stitching.

The cut in the fabric should be positioned over the guide plate of the side cutter.
