Using Red-eye Reduction

When flash is used in a low-light environment, the subject’s eyes may come out red in the image. “Red eye” happens when the light from the flash reflects off the retina of the eyes. The camera’s red-eye reduction feature turns on the red-eye reduction lamp to shine a gentle light into the subject’s eyes to narrow the pupil diameter or iris. A smaller pupil reduces the chances of red eye from occurring. Red-eye reduction can be set in any shooting mode except < > < > < >.

On the menu, select [Red-eye on/off].

1

Press the <

> button.

Turn the <

> dial to select [Red-eye on/off], then

press < >.

Set the red-eye reduction.

2 Turn the < > dial to select [On], then press < >.

sAfter the setting is completed, the menu will reappear.

Press the <> button to exit the menu and turn off the LCD monitor.

When you press the shutter button down halfway, the red-eye reduction lamp indicator appears in the viewfinder.

Red-eye reduction will not work unless the subject looks at the

red-eye reduction lamp. Tell the subject to look at the lamp.

To increase the effectiveness of red-eye reduction, press the shutter button down fully after the red-eye reduction lamp (which lights for approximately 1.5 seconds) indicator goes off.

You can shoot anytime by pressing the shutter button down fully, even if the red-eye reduction lamp is on.

Red-eye reduction also operates when you use an EOS-dedicated Speedlite.

The effectiveness of red-eye reduction varies from subject to subject.

Red-eye reduction is more effective in bright interior locations, with the camera closer to the subject.
