Backplane

WARNING: Whenever you need to lift the array, get others to assist you. To avoid injury, do not attempt to lift the array by yourself.

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.

Removing the Backplane

1Turn off the array and disconnect it from the electrical outlet.

2Disconnect all the cables connected to the array.

3Remove the hard drives. See "Removing a Hard Drive" on page 192.

4Remove the RAID controller modules. See "Removing a RAID Controller Module" on page 199.

5Remove the power supply/cooling fan modules. See "Removing a Power Supply/Cooling Fan Module" on page 204.

6Remove the control panel. See "Removing the Control Panel" on page 206.

7Remove the screws that secure the RAID controller module /power supply cage to the chassis.

8Grasp the cage removal ring at the bottom center of the array and pull the RAID controller module /power supply cage toward the back of the chassis. See Figure 15-15.

9Lift the RAID controller module /power supply cage away from the chassis. See Figure 15-15.

10Loosen the captive screw that secures the backplane to the chassis. See Figure 15-16 for PowerVault MD3200 or Figure 15-17 for PowerVault MD3220.

11Remove the screws that secure the backplane and pull the backplane out of the array. See Figure 15-16 for PowerVault MD3200 or Figure 15-17 for PowerVault MD3220.
