Operating Principles
2.2.5 Platen Gap () Adjust MechanismThe adjust mechanism, located at the top right of the printer cover, allows the user to set the proper platen gap (distance between paper and nozzle surface) for the paper thickness to prevent ink smudging. The adjustment mechanism consists of the adjust lever, guide shaft, and parallelism adjust bushings. Switching the lever from “0” to “1” turns the guide shaft which joins to the lever. Since the joint for the parallelism adjust bushing and guide shaft has an eccentricity toward the guide shaft, the guide shaft moves from or toward the platen as the lever moves. With this movement, the platen gap also changes from wide to narrow or vice versa.
