Installing Printer Software and Configuring on a Network

Note:

If you’re using a Macintosh Quadra 900 or 950, you need to set up the serial switch before you select your printer in the Chooser. Open the Apple menu and select Control Panel, then choose Serial Switch. Select Compatible, then close the dialog box and select your printer in the Chooser as described in step 10.

9.Now select your printer in the Chooser. If your printer is connected directly to the serial port on your Macintosh, see the next section for instructions.

If your printer is connected via an optional network interface card, see page B-9 for instructions on naming your printer and selecting it in the Chooser.

Selecting Your Printer in the Chooser

1.Open the Apple menu and select Chooser.

2.If you connected your printer to the printer port on your Macintosh or to a PowerBook with only one port, click Off to turn off AppleTalk.

3.Click the SC 850 icon.

4.Click the icon for the port you’re using, either printer or modem. (On a PowerBook with only one port, select the modem port icon.)

5.Click On to turn on background printing, if you want to use it. (Keep in mind that background printing is slower and may slow down your system while you print.)

6. Close the Chooser.

Note:

If you need to install a network interface board in your printer, see Appendix A for instructions.

Configuring for PC Network Printing

You can use your printer on a network under Windows NT, Windows 95, or another network operating system. First you need to install your printer software as described in this appendix. Then you need to set up your printer using the network’s printer setup functions.
