Configuring the D400

When you receive your D400, it is configured with default communication settings. To enable the D400 to communicate over your network, you must change the settings as required by your system.

6.1Connecting to the D400 for the First Time

To perform the initial set up of the D400, you need to plug directly into the D400 through the front serial communications port. The front communications port provides a local connection and terminal session with the D400 used to perform system administrative and maintenance procedures.

»To connect to the D400:

1.Connect the supplied null modem cable (GE Part No. 977-0529/72) to your computer’s serial communications port and to the D400's front communications port. See section “4.10 Front Maintenance Port” for cabling information.

2.From the Windows Start menu, select Programs > Accessories > Communications > HyperTerminal.

The HyperTerminal window opens and a connection wizard starts.

3.In the Connection Description dialog box, enter a Name for the connection. Click OK. Note: The name you choose is not important.

4.In the Connect to dialog box, select your computer's communication port (typically COM1) in the Connect using list. Click OK.
