Telnet

Telnet is an upper-layer service that allows you to interactively control a remote node’s console. You can establish this virtual terminal connec- tion from an HP router that has Telnet and either IP routing or IP host-only mode configured to a router that has Telnet configured and is suspected of not routing successfully.

1. At the NCL prompt, enter the Telnet command:

telnet x.x.x.x

where

x.x.x.x is the IP address of the remote node in dotted decimal notation.

2.Once the connection is established, Telnet passes your keystrokes to the remote system. If the remote system is another HP router:

a.You will see the system name of the remote node as the NCL prompt at the bottom of your display. Check the event log or routing tables of the remote node as you do for your own router. Use the Exit command to leave NCL and return to the remote node’s Main menu:

exit [Enter]

b.To disconnect the Telnet session, use the Logout option from the remote node’s Main Menu. When you are prompted with:

Do you want to disconnect? [Y/N:]

press [Y] for ‘‘yes’’. The remote node is disconnected, the Telnet session ends, and your own system name appears in the display.

If the remote system is not another HP router, then type the appropri- ate commands to interact with that system and to disconnect Telnet.
