PURGE

This command deletes one or more ￿les from the system.

Syntax

PURGE ￿lereference2 ;TEMP 3

Parameters

 

￿lereference

The actual ￿le designator of the ￿le to be deleted, in terpreted

 

according to MPE-escaped seman tics ￿lereference, can be

 

either an MPE ￿le (i.e., one that uses MPE syn tax) or it can

 

be a POSIX ￿le name beginning with a dot or a slash. F or

 

example, you can use the escaped pathname /SYS/PUB/FILE

 

since it is equivalent to the MPE name FILE.PUB.SYS .

TEMP

Speci￿es that the ￿le is a temporary ￿le in the job/session

 

temporary ￿le domain. You can specify a ￿lename in MPE or

 

HFS syntax and may name a sym bolic link that resolv es to a

 

￿lename . You must enter this parameter to delete a temporary

 

￿le. The default is that a permanen t ￿le is assumed.

Operation Notes

Usage

You can enter this command from a session, a job, a program, or in break mode. Pressing 4Break5 does not a￿ect this command.

You must have write access to a ￿le to delete it.

Purging unrecognized ￿les

If the ￿le does not exist in the speci￿ed domain, the following message appears:

FILE ￿lename NOT FOUND, NO PURGE DONE. (CIWARN 383)
