RENAME

The RENAME command changes the system iden ti￿cation for a ￿le. Y ou can use this command to c hange the name of a ￿le, to mo ve a ￿le from one group to another, or to c hange the lockword.

Syntax

RENAME old￿lereference,new￿lereference2,TEMP 3

Parameters

 

old￿le-

Speci￿es the current name of the ￿le. The form of

reference

old￿lereference consists of the follo wing elements:

 

￿lename[/lockword][.groupname[.acctname]]

 

If you specify acctname , the logon account must belong to you;

 

you must be the creator of the ￿le to rename it.

new￿le-

Speci￿es the new name of the ￿le in the same format as

reference

old￿lereference. If you specify acctname , the logon account

 

must belong to you. If you specify groupname, you must have

 

SAVE access to the group name. If y ou omit acctname and/or

 

groupname, the logon account and/or group are assumed.

Operation Notes

Usage

You can enter this command from a session, a job, a program, or in break mode. Pressing 4Break5 does not a￿ect this command.

Requirements

To rename a ￿le, y ou must be the ￿le's creator and m ust have exclusive access to the ￿le. You cannot rename ￿les that exist in other accoun ts, unless you have system administrator capability . This applies to both MPE and HFS ￿les. To copy ￿les that exist in other accoun ts, use the FCOPY command.
