Usage

You must enter this command from a terminal; y ou cannot use an y other device to enter this command. You cannot enter this command from a job, a program, or in break mode. Pressing 4Break5 does not abort the execution of this command, but ma y prematurely terminate the prin ting of the w elcome message.

You must supply both a v alid username and acctname in your logon command, or the system rejects y our logon attempt and displa ys an error message. If your logon attempt is accepted, the system displa ys speci￿c logon information and prompts y ou for your next operating system command. If your system administrator has set up a w elcome message, it appears after the system veri￿cation of y our logon.

If you connect through a modem and do not log on within the allo wable system-con￿gured time, the line drops. Y ou must redial and press 4Return5 again.

If you are already logged on and y ou enter the HELLO command, you are logged o￿ your current session and logged on to a new session.

In addition to the user and accoun t names, you may be required to pro vide a group name and one or more passw ords.

Providing a group name

The group you select at logon for y our local ￿le domain is kno wn as your logon group. If y our system administrator has associated a home group with your username , and if you want to use this group as y our logon group, y ou need not specify it. The system automatically assigns the home group as your logon group when y ou log on; however, if you want to use another group as your logon group, y ou must specify the name of that group in y our logon string as sho wn in the follo wing example:

MPE XL:HELLO USER.TECH,MYGROUP

If your user name is not related to a home group, y ou must enter a group name in the HELLO command string, or y our logon attempt fails.
