Adjust the Needle Thread Tension for Zigzag Stitch

For an ideal zigzag stitch, bobbin thread does not show on right side of fabric and needle thread shows slightly on wrong side.

See the illustrations for correct appearance.

To match this appearance, adjust the needle tension.

Correct tension

Right side of fabric (Top side of fabric)

Wrong side of fabric (Bottom side of fabric)

Minimize the amount of needle thread visible on the wrong side of fabric without causing excessive puckering or causing bobbin thread to show on the right side of fabric.

Results vary with fabric, thread and sewing conditions.

Tension is too tight

(_) Right side of fabric (Top side of fabric) Wrong side of fabric (Bottom side of fabric)

Corner of each zigzag pulls together on the right side of fabric.

Tension is too loose

QRight side of fabric (Top side of fabric) Wrong side of fabric (Bottom side of fabric)
