5.6Adjustment of the Reflectorless EDM

General

The red laser beam used for measuring without reflector is arranged coaxially with

 

the line of sight of the telescope, and emerges from the objective port. If the instru-

 

ment is well adjusted, the red measuring beam coincides with the visual line of sight.

 

External influences such as shock, stress or large temperature fluctuations can

 

displace the red measuring beam relative to the line of sight.

)The direction of the beam should be inspected before precise measurements of distances are attempted, because an excessive deviation of the laser beam from the line of sight can result in imprecise distance measurements.

￿Warning

Direct intrabeam viewing is always hazardous.

 

Precautions:

 

Do not stare into the beam or direct it towards other people unnecessarily. These

 

measures are also valid for the reflected beam.
