5About Cassette Tape

This unit will operate with any cassette tape that has the . For best results, we recommend the use of high-quality tapes. Do not use poor quality or damaged tapes.

5Selecting Tape Speeds

Before recording, select the tape speed from : SP mode (standard play) or SLP mode (super long play) by pressing [SPEED]. You can also play back a cassette tape recorded in LP mode (Long Play).

Note:

In the TV/VCR mode, If the cassette tape without tab is inserted, playback will start automatically.

If you press [REC/OTR I] or [REC] when a cassette tape without prevention tab is inserted, the unit will eject it automatically.

5Tracking Adjustment

Tracking adjustment will be set automatically when you start playback (digi- tal tracking function).

If noise lines (black and white streaks) appear on the playback picture, use [CH. K / L] until the streaks dis- appear (manual tracking adjustment).

This is available in pause/still/slow mode, too.

To release manual tracking mode, stop the playback once and start playback again.

5Switching Audio Mode

You can set the unit to play back the cassette tape in either high fi delity (Hi-Fi) or monaural (MONO or single-channel) sound.

When recording a TV program, unit records MTS broadcasts in Hi-Fi stereo sound automatically unless you select SAP mode recording beforehand. See page 17 on how to set the audio mode.

During playback of a cassette tape, press [TV/VCR Audio] to switch “HIFI” or “MONO”.

This setting is saved until the cassette tape is ejected.

The current mode will automatically disappear in 5 seconds.

Note:

Non-Hi-Fi tapes will play in monaural automatically.

When playing a non-Hi-Fi tape, pressing [TV/VCR Audio] will only affect the display shown on the TV screen but it does not affect the actual sound mode.

5Basic Playback

1Insert a pre-recorded tape so that

the unit turns on automatically (auto power on).

• If the erase-prevention tab has been removed, the unit will change the

VCR mode and start playback automatically.

Even in the DVD mode, you can start the cassette tape playback if you press [PLAY B] on the unit of the TV/ VCR side.

2To start playback, press [PLAY B].

3To stop the playback, press [STOP C].

4To rewind the tape, press [REV E] . To forward the tape, press or [FWD D]. To stop winding, press [STOP C].

5To eject the cassette tape from the cassette compart- ment, press [STOP/EJECT CA] on the unit.

5Still Picture & Slow Motion

During playback, press [PAUSE F] to freeze the pic- ture. You can advance the picture frame by frame by pressing [PAUSE F] repeatedly.

During the still mode, press [FWDD] to forward slow motion playback.

To release the still or slow mode, press [PLAY B].

Note:

If the unit keeps the slow mode or still mode for more than 5 minutes, it will automatically enter the stop mode.

5Auto Rewind-eject

When the end of a tape is reached during recording, playback, or fast for- ward, the tape will automatically rewind to the beginning. After rewinding finishes, the unit will eject the tape and turn itself off.

This function is operative when repeat playback is set to “OFF”.

The tape will not auto-rewind during timer recording or one-touch timer recording (OTR).

5Picture Search

This function is useful in fi nding or skipping over a particular scene on a tape. In this mode, the sound will be muted.

1During playback, press [REV E] or [FWD D] to view at a high speed (in reverse/forward).

2Press [REV E / H] or [FWD D / G] again to view at super high speed (in LP/SLP modes only).

3Press [PLAY B] to return to normal playback.

Note:

Tapes recorded in the SP or LP mode will normally display a noise bar on the TV screen and the picture may revert to black and white.
