Digital TV channels broadcast variable amounts of data, depending on the type of program being aired. For instance, there may be times when a sports specialty channel broadcasts a larger quantity of data than channels whose lineups are primarily made up of talk shows or soap operas. Sports programs generally involve much more movement, and more data are therefore required to reproduce the images on your screen. The number

of recording hours available to you therefore varies according to the types of programs you record.

Based on the average amount of data transmitted by an SDTV (Standard Definition Television) channel, a PVR terminal’s 80-gigabyte hard drive can store up to 50 hours of recorded programs.

HDTV (High-Definition Television) channels need to transmit 2 to 2.5 times more data than standard channels to reproduce a higher quality image on your screen. Your PVR HD is equipped with a high-capacity hard drive (160 gigabytes) that lets you store up to 20 hours of high-definition programming, or up to 100 hours of standard-format content.
