CURSOR: The flashing marker used to indicate the current position on the
display screen.
DATABASE: An organized file containing records on related data.
DATA ENTRY: Formatted display with highlighted fields for entering codeplug
SCREEN: parameter (data). A prompt for the type of required user
action, either data selection from a list or direct keyboard entry, is
indicated in the top right section of the screen.
DECREMENT: To decrease a value.
DEFAULTS: Standard data or parameter values.
DEFAULT DRIVE: The disk drive that the Radio Service Software will use to GET data
from or SAVE data to. You can change the default drive from the
PROGRAMMER CONFIGURATION menu.
DE-KEY: Turn the transmitter off (release push-to-talk).
DIRECTORY: A catalog of files on a disk. To view the catalog of files on a disk
on drive A:, enter the DOS Directory command:
DIR A: [Enter]
DISK DRIVE: The device that reads and programs information on a permanent
storage medium; ie. floppy disks or hard disks.
DISKETTE: An alterable permanent magnetic storage medium for
microcomputers. Also called a disk, floppy disk, or mini diskette.
1 DOS: An acronym for Disk Operating System. DOS is a group of
programs that control the way the computer interfaces with other
programs, tells the computer how to use, read, and return
information to and from application programs, and how to organize
and use the information on disks.
2 DOS: DOS or Data Operated Squelch, is the radios ability to mute the
audio while examining the MDC data packet that precedes many
transmissions. This eliminates the miscellaneous noise at the
beginning of an incoming transmission that would otherwise be
heard.
DPL: An acronym for Digital Private Line. A channel that has DPL on the
receive frequency will require both the presence of carrier as well
as the correct DPL code before it will unmute. Also, if you have
DPL on the transmit frequency, all transmissions on that channel
will be modulated at a sub-audible level with the DPL code.
Modulation will be continuous.
DRIVE: See disk drive.
DTMF: An acronym for Dual Tone Multi-frequency. DTMF is a signalling
system used by the Bell Telephone System.
DVP: An acronym for Digital Voice Protection. DVP is one of several
encryption algorithms.
