The time required for assigning the IP address depends on your network
andtheconfigurationofyourGPIB-ENET/100.Allowupto90seconds
andobserve the state of the PWR/RDY LED to determ ine the outcome of
the self tests. One of the followingsho uld occur:
A steady yellowPWR/RDY LED indicates t he GPIB-ENET/100
passedits self tests and acquired i tsIP address. The unit is now ready
to operate. When using DHCP,the GPIB-ENET/100 typically is
ready to operate about 15 seconds after you poweri t on.R un the
NI-488 Config configuration utility as described in Chapter 4, GPIB
Configuration,toaddtheunittoyourGPIBsystem.
Ifthe PWR/RDY LED continues to alternate rapidly b etween red and
yellow, the unit was unable to use DHCP to configure its network
parameters. If your network does not haveDHCP, you must use the
NI Ethernet Device Configuration utility,as described in Chapter 3,
Ethernet Configuration, to giveyour unit its network configuration.
If this utility is successful, the PWR/RDY LED should become
steady yellow. Then you can run NI-488 Config as described in
Chapter4, GPIB Configuration. Refer to Appendix B,
Troubleshootingand Common Questions,if the LED does not change
to steady yellow.
If the PWR/RDY LED blinks a slow red/yellowpattern, the
GPIB-ENET/100 did not pass its self tests. Refer to Appendix A,
PWR/RDYLED Signaling,to interpret the f lash pattern before calling
National Instruments TechnicalSupport.
If the PWR/RDY LED is steady red, the GPIB-ENET/100 has an
unrecoverableerror. Contact National Instruments Technical Support.
Youcan skip Chapter 3, Ethernet Configuration, if your GPIB-ENET/100
can useD HCP,although you do need to use the NI Ethernet Device
Configurationutility if you want to change the h ostname from the default
hostnamelisted on the baseplate label. You also can run this utility without
enteringnet workconfiguration mode if you just want to view the network
settings.
Note If at anytime you want to return th eG PIB-ENET/100 to its default configuration
state as givenon the baseplate label, press and hold the CFG RESET switch for three
secondswhile you switch the power on. This switch is located on the rear panel, as shown
inFigure 2-2.Refer to the Using the CFG RESET Switch section in Chapter 6, Using Your
GPIB-ENET/100 and NI-488.2, for more information.
