18Connecting to the mains
Always ensure the local mains voltage matches the voltage range
printed on the type plate at the back or bottom of the DVD-recorder.
If not, consult your dealer or Philips customer support.
1Switch on the TV.
2Insert the supplied mains cable Dinto the socket
4MAINS Jat the back of the DVD recorder and the plug into
the wall socket.
PThe most important features of the DVD recorder appear as
scrolling text on the display.
After the first installation is completed (all TV channels
installed) this function will be switched off.
Initial installation
After successfully connecting your DVD recorder to the TV and other
additional devices, the initial installationcan start. After the basic
settings for DVD-playback, the DVD recorder automatically seeks and
stores all available TV channels.
The settings can be changed later. Refer to 'User Preferences/Settings
II'.
Switching on additional devices
If you have connected additional devices such as a satellite receiver to the
aerial cable, switch them on. The automatic channel search will recognise it
and save it. Please observe that you must switch on a "test signal" for some
additional devices.
No aerial connected
Even if you only want to use the DVD recorder to play back or have only
connected a satellite receiver, you must still complete the initial installation.
This is necessary so that the basic settings are stored correctly. Once initial
installation is complete you can use the DVD recorder as normal.
1Press STANDBY m2on the remote control or
STANDBY-ON m1on the front.
P'PHILIPS' and then 'IS TV ON?' will appear on the display.
PIf your TV automatically switched to the programme
number for the input socket, e.g. 'EXT', '0', 'AV', you see the
following screen:

aMy screen is empty.
bDepending on the initialisation procedure it can take some time
before the picture appears. Please press no button in the
meantime.
bIf the TV does not automatically switch to the programme number of
the input socket, select the corresponding programme numberon
your TV manually (see your TV's operating instructions).
bCheck that the scart cable is connected from the TV to the EXT1
TO TV-I/O Nsocket on the DVD recorder. The EXT2
AUX-I/O Msocket is only intended for additional devices.
