Chapter 1 / Section 3 Using Special Features for Improved Photography

Changing the Light Metering (PHOTOMETRY)

You can change the metering method (the range to use for metering) to determine the exposure value. There are three Light Metering Methods available: MULTI, CENTRE, and SPOT.

MULTI

The entire range of the shot is divided into small sections, each of which is measured and the exposure is determined based on the total.

At purchase, your camera is set to this method.

CENTRE

The light metering is determined by a measurement of the whole, with the central part emphasized.

Use this when the brightness of the center and surroundings are different.

To select light metering method, follow the steps below.

Buttons used here

Turn the Mode Dial to (Shooting Mode).

Press the button.

The Shooting menu appears.

SPOT

Light metering is determined by measuring only the central part.

Use this setting when you want to use the brightness of the center. It is useful if there is marked difference in contrast or backlighting.

Press the buttons to switch between displays as required.
