Using the zoom

There are two zoom functions (optical zoom and digital zoom). When you first zoom in on the subject, it is magnified with the optical zoom. When the limit of the optical zoom has been reached, zooming in further will then magnify the image using the digital zoom. You can set whether or not the digital zoom becomes active when shooting (see page 89).

The digital zoom can be used when the resolution is set to Dor less.

1 Set the digital zoom to on (see page 89), and point the camera lens at the subject.

œWhen the digital zoom is set to on, the digital zoom icon will appear on the LCD monitor.

2 Press 0or 1on the zoom switch to compose the desired image.

0: Zoom in on the subject.

1: Zoom out.

œWhen the optical zoom factor becomes 2.8x, zooming

stops temporarily. When the zoom switch is again pressed to 0, it changes to the digital zoom mode, and zooming continues (if digital zooming is available).

œWhile the digital zoom is active, the stand-by indicator flashes green and the digital zoom icon becomes yellow.

3 Press the shutter release button.

œThe image is captured with the subject zoomed up (enlarged).

œWhen the digital zoom is used, the image quality will deteriorate slightly.

œIf the optical zoom is operated during video clip photography, the noise from the zoom movement may be picked up by the microphone. In this case, change the camera setting so that the optical zoom does not move (see page 88).

The digital zoom cannot be used when capturing images using the viewfinder

œIf the main switch is set to “MONITOR OFF” while the digital zoom is active, the digital zoom is canceled and only the optical zoom (2.8x) will function.
